A few years ago in Singapore, there was an abbot’s mother in her seventies who disliked walking. If she really needed to go out, she would ask, “Do I need to take the lift or climb the stairs to get there? If there is no lift, I will not go.” She was afraid to climb stairs because of her leg pain.
