Five Color Strings

A Bodhi practitioner wrote in his letter: “I used to be in constant fear even when at home. However, since I got my five color strings and dzi bead from Bodhi Meditation center, I am not so fearful anymore".

Five color strings has the ability to eradicate calamities and negative forces; and has calming effect. When worn together with the dzi bead, the effect is enhanced.

Five color strings is also known as the five color silk or five color thread. In the old days, it was common to see the elderly making five color strings for babies to wear as blessings.

The five colors represent the five elements and possess the mysterious power to dispel dark forces and attract the auspicious. According to an ancient record in a book in the Eastern Han dynasty, tying a five color strings to our wrists can eliminate negative forces, eradicate calamities and avoid epidemics.

Bodhi’s five color strings emanates auspicious energy since they are specially blessed. When worn together with the dzi bead, it dispels evil forces, eradicates calamities and blesses the wearer with longevity.

 It is especially suitable for daily wear in the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Five color strings can be worn on the wrists or around the neck.
 
If worn for an extended period of time, five color strings has calming effect and increases the charismatic aura of the wearer. This can bring positive affinities and wearers find it easy to receive help from benefactors.

Light Offering

Offering light before Buddha helps clear negative energy

Even in modern days, there are still many things that Science cannot explain. For instance, one may see or feel a black image entering their body in the middle of their sleep and start to experience discomfort thereafter; others fall sick after dreaming of deceased family and friends. Medical doctors fail to diagnose the source of their discomfort.  What recourse do we have to resolve these problems? Yugong from Taiwan would like to share on her experiences.

I am Yugong from Taiwan. In the year of 2014, my sister was residing in Australia. One night, she dreamt of a neighbor who had passed away many years ago. In the dream, the neighbor jolted my sister up from her sleep and tapped her head. Subsequently, my sister started to fall sick and suffered from bad headache attacks. Her discomfort went on for more than a month and although she sought medical help, her condition did not improve.

At that time, I was attending Bodhi’s meditation retreat and heard from other dharma brothers and sisters many testimonials on the benefits of making light offerings. With a curious mind, I offered a light on my sister’s behalf without informing her, to verify if it was efficacious.

Never did I expect to receive her call two days later. She told me her headaches had been alleviated even though she had not taken her medicine for 2 days. Upon hearing this, I told her I had offered a light to Buddha on her behalf. Since she felt better after one light offering, she asked me to make another light offering. Shortly, she recovered from her headaches.

She shared her experiences with her friends in Australia. Since then, her Australian friends often sought my help in making light offerings.  Within a few months, I have lighted 76 lamps at their request. Obviously these people must have benefitted personally and hence spread through word of mouth the miraculous effect of Bodhi's light offering - this explains why I continue to receive their requests.

This sharing is indeed a testament and reinforcement to the miraculous energy and power of Bodhi’s light offering.

【佛前點燈，消除邪氣】

世界上有很多事情，是目前的科學無法解釋的。比如有的人睡覺時，朦朧地看到一個黑影進到身體裡，之後就很不舒服；還有的人夢到已經去世的人，醒來後就莫名地生病了，科學上無法解釋，醫學上也查不出病因。那有什麼辦法可以解決嗎？臺灣的昱貢有經驗分享給大家。

我是昱貢，來自台灣。2014年的時候，我妹妹在澳洲居住。有一天晚上，她做了一個夢，夢到死去多年的鄰居，在夢裡拍了拍她的頭，她當下就驚醒了。沒想到從此就開始生病頭痛，一病就是一個多月，多次看醫生也不見任何效果。

當時我正好參加菩提禪修健身班，在課堂上聽到了不少師兄姐分享有關供燈的見證，我便抱著好奇想試試看的心理，在沒告知妹妹的情況下，給她點了一盞燈，驗證一下是不是真的那麼靈驗。

.

沒想到，過了兩天她打電話告訴我，說這兩天在沒吃藥的狀況下頭痛突然減緩，也沒這麼疼了。我這才告訴她，我有幫她點燈，她聽了又馬上追加一盞，不久頭痛也就完全痊癒了。

.

她把自己的親身經歷告訴了澳洲的朋友們，從那時起，她的澳洲朋友陸陸續續託我在禪堂點燈，短短幾個月內，我就相繼幫他們點了很多盞燈，可見大家都有受益，才會這般口口相傳、紛紛點燈。菩提供燈果真具有不可思議地神奇能量。

The heavenly law manifest justice; there is no way of escape.

Today is the 1st day of the lunar 7th month, an auspicious and friendly day.
Let me share with you a thought-provoking story!
It is a real life story from a Bodhi practitioner in New York.

I live in New York—my name is Xiulan (a pseudonym). My family was very poor when we were growing up. My parents made a living from rearing pigs. Once, a female black pig gave birth to a litter of piglets. One of them looked very different from its other siblings. Its hair was all white except for some curly black hair at the belly area which seemed like the piglet was wearing a black belt around it's belly. Subsequently, all the piglets were sold except for this white piglet. Xiulan’s family tried selling it multiple times but was unsuccessful. There was a rumor going around: “Never seen such a pig before, it symbolizes inauspiciousness!” As a result, no one dared to buy this white piglet.

Xiulan had two younger brothers and she was the eldest child. Her mother was then pregnant with her third younger brother who was due for birth soon. After the birth of Xiulan's third younger brother, the mother thought of slaughtering the white pig for consumption since they were not able to sell it off and she was in her confinement and needed nourishment.

On that particular day, Xiulan’s mother sought the help of Xiulan’s uncle to slaughter the white pig to make stewed soup. As Xiulan’s uncle was preparing to slaughter the pig in the courtyard, her mother heard the pig wailing and screaming from the room where she was resting. She handed her baby, Xiulan’s younger brother, to Xiulan and proceed to help Xiulan’s uncle with the slaughtering of the pig. While Xiulan carried her new-born brother in her arms, she heard the wailing scream of the pig as it was being slaughtered and was so afraid that she hid in the room holding her brother tightly. Subsequently, there was only silence. When Xiulan recovered from the agony, she discovered that her baby brother was no longer moving and breathing in her arms!!

When her mother returned to take the baby from Xiulan, she was distraught to discover that her new-born had stopped breathing. Apparently, her baby died in his sister’s arms when the pig was being killed. This is such a tragic outcome...

As the saying goes, misfortune does not come in singles and blessings never come in doubles; hence, this is not the end yet…...

When Xiulan’s second younger brother was seventeen years old, he was an extremely intelligent, considerate, filial and good-looking son. Every night, he would prepare water for his parents to soak and wash their feet, prepare dinner and helped with house chores. He was an all rounder in all areas. Hence, though Xiulan’s family was not very well off, her parents tried to save money to send her brother for studies in Japan, hoping he could have a bright future.

Xiulan’s family finally managed to save enough money to send her brother overseas for study. All the administrative work for university enrollment had been done and the entire family was just looking forward for her brother to leave for Japan in September. As he was leaving in a month’s time, it would be his last summer holiday spent with his parents at home. Being a very sensible boy, he went to help his uncle harvests watermelons in his plantation. However, her brother never return from the plantation alive.

Do you know what happened? Xiulan’s brother was electrocuted in the watermelon plantation. When her mother heard about the dire news, she lost her mind on the spot.

From then on, Xiulan’s mother could no longer take care of herself in her daily life. She behaved like a lunatic and would run to the Guanyin temple in their village regularly to chant the mantra of Guanyin Bodhisattva to repent on her past sins.

Therefore, this is the scary truth of the law of cause and effect. I hope that as you learn and practice Buddha dharma with me, it can help accelerate and increase your energy and wisdom, so you will not be lost in the cycle of karma (cause and effect). May you grow in wisdom and health, and enjoy joy and happiness!

天理昭彰，疏而不漏。。 。

今天是農曆七月初一，是個吉祥而友善的日子。
我來說個頗令人省思的故事吧！
這是紐約一個同修的真實故事….

我是住在紐約的----秀蘭(化名)，小時候因為家裡比較貧困，父母就以養豬、賣豬為業，以維持家計。有一次，一頭黑豬媽媽生了一窩豬寶寶，其中有一頭豬，長得跟其他兄弟姊妹不一樣，牠的毛色是全白的，唯有肚皮生了一圈黑黑的毛，就像是戴著一條黑腰帶，非常的特別，後來一窩豬寶寶陸續都賣掉了，就剩這一頭白豬，賣了好多次就是賣不掉，大家都傳言說:「從沒見過這樣的豬，是不吉利的象徵！」沒有人敢買。

秀蘭有兩個弟弟，她是老大，她母親當時正好又懷著三弟，正好也面臨著生產，母親生完三弟後，為了做個好月子，心裡想著吃補品，但是因為家裡窮，就想:「這隻白豬既然賣不掉，乾脆就把牠給殺了，做補品吧！」

這天，母親請了大伯來家裡幫忙殺豬、燉補，大伯就在院子裡準備殺豬，母親在房裡聽到小豬吱哇亂叫的聲音，忍不住的把剛出生的三弟(BABY)交給了秀蘭，從房裡衝出去幫忙大伯一起殺豬，秀蘭抱著三弟，聽到院子傳來被殺小豬，那淒厲的慘叫聲，嚇得躲在房間裡緊緊抱著三弟，後來，外面的聲音停止了，豬的慘叫聲沒有了，等秀蘭再回過頭來看她懷裡的弟弟，怎麼也不動了？沒氣了！！

媽媽幫忙殺豬完回來後，抱過來一看早已沒了氣息，原來這個豬被殺的當場，三弟也同時死在秀蘭這個姐姐的懷裡頭了。這是多麼令人扼腕的結果。。。

所謂禍不單行，福無雙至，這還不算完…..

秀蘭的大弟，年紀大約十七歲，特別聰明、貼心、孝順，長得也很漂亮，每天晚上都會幫父母打洗腳水、洗腳、做飯啊，家裡的活兒搶著做，各個方面都是很優秀的。所以，家裡雖然不是太富裕，父母就是想方設法積攢錢，要送這個大弟去日本留學，圖個好未來。

這一年呢，大弟的學費差不多湊夠了，學校也聯繫好了，好不容易地辦完各種繁雜手續，就等著準備九月份去日本留學。這時候，也是大弟最後一個可以留在家中，陪伴父母的暑假，因為再一個多月，他就要前往日本讀書了，大弟非常乖巧，就去大伯的西瓜地裡幫忙摘西瓜，但是，大弟走進了西瓜地就再也沒有出來了。

大家猜怎麼了？大弟莫名被電死在西瓜地裡了。
她媽媽聽到這個惡訊之後，當場就瘋了，舉凡吃飯、睡覺，生活再也不能自理，每天瘋瘋癲癲的，就知道往村裡一間觀音廟裡跑，整天就在那裡跪著念觀音聖號、懺悔。

所以，因果業報的可怕就是如此，希望大家跟著我修習佛法，禪法，能快速地開啟智慧與能量，不再迷昧於因果迷圈裡，最後祝福大家，智慧、健康、幸福、快樂！

Famen Temple and Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic

Famen Temple – The Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic

The Famen Temple is located in Shaanxi Province, China. It was founded during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and was formerly known as the King Ashoka Temple. With a more than 1,700-year history, the temple is venerated with its Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic.

When Sakyamuni Buddha ascended into parinirvana, he gifted 84,000 pieces of relics. In a bid to spread Buddhist teachings globally, India's King Ashoka distributed the Buddha’s relics to different parts of the world, amid the constructions of pagodas as means of worship. One of the Buddha’s relics – the Finger Bone Relic – was gifted to the Famen Temple.

During the Tang Dynasty, with the reverence and faith in Buddhism by the monarchy, Emperor Gaozu personally renamed the Ashoka Temple as "Famen Temple." During that period, there would be a ceremony held in honor of the relic every 30 years.  Subsequently, the pagoda where the relic was consecrated became known as the “Protector of the Country’s Relic” pagoda.

As it progressed to the Xi Zong’s era, Emperor Tang Xizong safe-kept the relic together with a collection of thousands of rare treasures under the pagoda, which were then sealed at the entrances.  A massive earthquake occurred during the Ming dynasty however, and buried the temple grounds. It was not until 1987 that the temple was re-discovered, and the Buddha’s finger bone relic, amongst countless treasures saw light finally, much to the awe of the world.

The underground palace at Famen Temple is currently the oldest, largest, and most revered of Buddhist stupa palaces with innumerable treasures, and no lack of legendary tales.  Yet, the miracle of Fa Men Temple’s hidden treasures lies in Sakyamuni Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic that has to date prevailed for at least 2,500 years.  The fact that the Finger Bone Relic is recognized as one of few remaining authentic relics of the Sakyamuni Buddha makes it invaluable!  It further affirms the faith that Sakyamuni Buddha is genuinely omnipresent, validates the eternal compassion of the Dharma, and blesses the universe with the most auspicious energy.

法門寺──佛指舍利

法門寺位於中國陝西省，始建於東漢，原名阿育王寺，距今1700多年歷史，寺院以供奉佛指骨舍利而富有盛名。

釋迦牟尼佛涅槃荼毗後，留下了八萬四千顆舍利，印度的阿育王為了弘揚佛法，將舍利分送世界各國，造塔供奉，其中一顆佛指骨舍利就供奉於法門寺。

到了唐代，皇室尊奉佛教，篤信佛法，唐高祖親自將阿育王寺名改為「法門寺」。當時，每三十年會舉辦一次舍利瞻禮法會，法門寺的舍利寶塔也被尊譽為「護國真身寶塔」。
.
傳至僖宗時，唐僖宗將舍利連同數千件稀世珍寶一同封入塔下地宮收藏，而明代的一場大地震將法門寺掩於黃土之下。直到1987年，法門寺地宮才又被世人發現，佛指骨舍利則在無數珍寶的簇擁下再次橫空出世，震驚世人。

這座地宮也是目前年代最久遠、規模最大、級別最高的佛塔地宮，珍藏的寶物不計其數，流傳許多傳說。而法門寺珍藏的釋迦牟尼佛遺世的一節指骨，是一個奇迹般的存在，至今已存世兩千五百年之久。佛指骨舍利也是目前僅存的釋迦牟尼佛真身舍利，尤顯珍貴！代表著釋迦牟尼佛是真實不虛的存在，也印證了佛法的慈悲，為世間帶來吉祥的能量。

What is Feng Shui?

In the past, I have been to many homes that gave me an uncomfortable feeling the moment I stepped in. I would think to myself, “Oh, this household does not have good fengshui.” The children or other family members of the owner would usually be in poor health, be unreasonable in nature, and do not have stable jobs or careers. In contrast, a house that belongs to a family of compassionate and ,benevolent people will have a peaceful and comfortable ambience, which will make you want to stay longer. These people may be poor currently, but their offspring will definitely grow wealthy with time.

You can hire fengshui masters to improve the fengshui and ambience of your home, but that good fengshui may not necessarily benefit you. In fact, it may only bring benefits to the next owner of the house. This is most aptly described in the saying “Good fengshui needs to be matched with an equally good destiny.”

There is a Chinese legend about a person who made seven special swords that were especially sharp and could shear all other swords into two. What do you think would happen if these precious swords were to end up in the hands of an ordinary soldier? Would he transform into a general? Let me tell you, if a sword like that was to end up in the possession of a swordsman of mediocre skills, his end will be near. Precious swords and fine horses were only fitting for heroes with exceptional skills. If an ordinary man is to come into possession of a formidable weapon, it will usually result in his early demise.

Good fengshui and great wealth are meant for people with sufficient karmic merits. Only heroes can ride the finest steeds and take up the sharpest precious swords.

Many large diamonds and gems were discovered in India. Of these, the largest and, most beautiful and most precious gem is the one that is currently sitting on the crown of the British Queen. She is both rich and immensely powerful, with the backing of all the British people, which is why she can accept such a precious treasure.

If the huge jewel was in the hands of an ordinary farmer, he or she would have been robbed and killed the very next day. An uncountable number of people have lost their lives because of this precious jewel. The deaths were halted only when the jewel landed in the hands of the British Queen.

Good fengshui goes well with someone who has good fortune, while great wealth goes to someone auspicious, because these people have good karma.  People become rich or powerful because they have sufficient karmic merits as the foundation.Compassion and karmic merits are the best fengshui that one can ever have.

在過去，我去過很多不同人的家裡，有的我一進去就感覺到：「喔，這個居家風水有些不吉祥。」一看他們的子女或家人，通常不太健康、個性比較不講道理，連帶的這個事業、工作都很不穩定。而一個有慈悲心、有做功德的家庭，他的家庭氣場就很詳和，你會很樂意在他家待著，可能這一代還是窮人，但下一代一定是富人。

我們成天講風水，你可以花錢請風水師，把你家弄得很有風水、很有感覺，但是那個風水不是給你的，是給下一個主人的，就像我們常說的「好風水還要配好命運」。

譬如在中國歷史上流傳的一個傳說故事，有一個人做了7把鋒利無比的寶劍，把一般的劍一砍就斷，這些寶劍鋒利無比。請問這樣的寶劍，如果讓一個最最普通的士兵獲得，會如何呢？這個士兵會變成將軍嗎？那我就告訴你，如果是一個武功普通的人拿著這樣的寶劍，就是他的死期到了。寶劍、寶馬配的是英雄豪傑，一個普通人拿上了一把鋒利無比的武器，只能導致讓自己早早滅亡。一個普通人就不應該拿這樣的寶劍，拿到就會惹來殺身之禍。

好風水是要給有根基的人，他才能享用這樣的榮華富貴。真正的英雄才能騎得了最好的駿馬，手裡握得住那把最鋒利的寶劍。

印度，曾經出過很多的寶石、鑽石，印度最好、最大、最重的寶石，現在是在英女皇的皇冠上頭。她除了有錢，她還有無上的權利，有整個大英帝國人來護衛著她，所以承受得起。如果是一個普通農民，挖到一塊這麼大的大寶石，想要謀財害命的人馬上會找上門，還不到明天可能命就沒了。所以在這樣的一顆寶石下，不知死了多少人，最終到了英女皇手裡，才讓這顆寶石的流血事件就此終止。

所以，好風水要配有福氣的人；大財富要給吉祥的人。人家為什麼發財呢？他為什麼有這個權力呢？因為他有這個基礎，也有這個資格，我們就稱之為善業，慈悲善業就是最好的風水。
